Secret revealed

THE Soundtrack to the Secret Life of Us is the most likeable compilations to hit the market in a long time.

This double CD is a perfect complement to the slickly produced television series.

Rather than choose big name acts, the compilers have opted for a more low-key selection of lesser knowns.

For example, although bands like Motor Ace, The Titanics and Waikiki each have a devoted following, they're unlikely to blitz the charts any day soon.

And while Paul Kelly and Monique Brumby are more recognisable names, their atmospheric collaboration, Melting, is relatively unheard of.

Those who are fans of the Secret Life Of Us will no doubt enjoy this offering, with its mixture of catchy rock tunes, mellow melodies and lovelorn songs.

But be warned: although the tracks fit the mood and the character of the show, the album as a whole offers little in the way of variety.

That's not such a bad thing, considering the trend among sales conscious soundtrack producers to choose tomorrow's top 40 hits and include music to cater for as many groups as possible.
